Jewelry Care Guide

Solid gold is made to last a lifetime. A little care keeps it looking as bright as the day you got it.

How to clean your gold ring at home

  1. Fill a small bowl with warm water and add a few drops of mild dish soap.
  2. Soak your ring for 10 to 15 minutes.
  3. Gently brush with a soft toothbrush, paying attention to the back of stones where lotion and dirt collect.
  4. Rinse in clean warm water (close the sink drain first).
  5. Dry and polish with a soft, lint-free cloth.

Do this every few weeks for rings you wear daily.

Take your rings off when…

  • Swimming in pools or hot tubs. Chlorine can weaken gold alloys and dull the finish.
  • Cleaning with bleach or household chemicals.
  • Working out or lifting weights. Pressure can bend thin bands and loosen stones.
  • Applying lotion, sunscreen, perfume or hairspray. Put jewelry on last.
  • Gardening or doing hands-on work.

How to store your jewelry

  • Store each piece separately in its pouch or a lined jewelry box. Diamonds can scratch gold and other stones.
  • Keep rings away from humidity and direct sunlight.
  • Never toss rings loose in a bag or pocket.

Special care by type

  • Pavé and eternity bands: Check stones every few months. If anything feels loose, stop wearing the ring and contact us.
  • White gold: If the bright white finish softens over time, a jeweler can re-polish and re-plate it with rhodium.
  • Enamel and onyx: Avoid ultrasonic cleaners and harsh chemicals. Clean with a soft damp cloth only.
  • Pearls: Wipe with a soft dry cloth after wearing. Never soak pearls.

Should I use an ultrasonic cleaner?

Ultrasonic cleaners are safe for plain gold and most diamond rings, but avoid them for pearls, enamel, onyx, emeralds and pavé settings, as vibrations can damage or loosen stones.

Professional care

We recommend a professional check-up once a year for rings you wear every day, especially stone-set pieces.
